AVIA Alternative energy sources

Electricity and EV Charger

In markets with the corresponding liberalization, AVIA members are also active in the electricity business.

Due to the growing demand for charging stations for electric cars and electric fleets, member companies continuously install new E-chargers at petrol stations and rest areas.

One of the leading members is AVIA Weghorst with the brand AVIA VOLT.

Pellets

Some AVIA members offer pellets that originate from local production. Additionally, some AVIA members have joined forces in the distribution of pellets and utilize a shared pellets truck fleet.

The Austrian member Franz Eigl GmbH from Zwettl even operates its own pellet production facility and sources the wood directly from the surrounding Waldviertel.

Hydrogen

The hydrogen market is in a rising phase and experiencing strong development. The decision regarding the type of hydrogen production lies with both AVIA members and national organizations.

A prominent player in this field is the AVIA member Osterwalder St.Gallen, which is considered one of the pioneers. As one of the first producers and providers of hydrogen, Osterwalder St.Gallen produces it in a CO2-neutral manner.

Solar Energy

AVIA members are committed to sustainable energy generation. They equip petrol station roofs at sunny locations with solar panels to cover their own energy needs and provide power to the charging stations.

Some AVIA members also operate production facilities for manufacturing solar panels. An outstanding example of this is the Polish AVIA member UNIMOT, which has established its own solar panel production facility under the label AVIA SOLAR.

Wind Energy

Some AVIA members in Germany actively engage in the operation of wind parks to generate sustainable energy through wind power. In some cases, such as AVIA Switzerland or AVIA Netherlands, excess wind energy is converted into green hydrogen, which is offered as a carbon-neutral fuel.
